Howard Nizewitz is a compensation advisor and strategic HR consultant, a crusader for “Break Free From Spreadsheets,” and an advocate for changing the dynamics of the compensation conversation. He wants to put the fun back in compensation!
His extensive expertise in compensation management comes with a 30-year track record of implementing strategic and successful compensation programs in the financial services and technology industries, globally and regionally. His other areas of expertise include HR consulting, deferred compensation, incentive plan design and talent management.
Transforming Compensation teams from administrators of outdated, time-consuming activities to strategically focused business advisors.
While involved with the design, development, implementation, and administration of complex compensation programs at leading financial service organizations, including Barclays, Citigroup and JPMorgan, his biggest nightmare was administering the firm’s biggest expense (salary and incentive plans) using spreadsheets. Howard contends that spreadsheets were never designed or intended to be the ideal way to collect recommendations, do complex modeling and analysis. He knew there had to be a better approach using technology to break-free from spreadsheets and the limitations in human capital management (HCM)-suited applications.
Now an advocate for compensation management software, Howard is dedicated to helping organizations leverage technology to facilitate these processes. He loves nothing more than helping Reward professionals reap the benefits of being spreadsheet-free – and to see business accomplish more with efficient processes and strategic analysis.
Howard’s specialty is customizing compensation and reward programs that reflect the individual dynamics of each organization he works with. Off-the-shelf designs or market practices is not always enough to achieve business objectives and to keep employees engaged. He is proud of his ability to help organizations redesign their plans and experience the difference of working with a hands-on, creative consulting team.
“I’ve known Howard as a colleague and co-volunteer of the Financial Markets Total Rewards Group (FMTRG) for a number of years. He is a highly skilled HR professional with deep expertise in planning, developing and implementing compensation and executive compensation programs, policies and procedures. Howard also has a solid understanding of the broader human resources and business context in which the compensation function operates. He is a strategic leader who works collaboratively and in partnership with stakeholders. In other words, he is smart, knows his stuff and is easy to work with.” Wendy Bellus, Director of Learning and Development, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation
